Oklahoma Heritage Association

It takes many people to accomplish the Oklahoma Heritage Association and Gaylord-Pickens Museum’s mission of preserving Oklahoma history and promoting pride in our state, and our volunteers are at the forefront of this effort.

With each task our volunteers perform, they have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of both students and adults by sharing the rich heritage of our state. From leading guided tours and providing educational support to assisting with special events and performing administrative tasks, the individuals in our Heritage Keeper Volunteer Program play an essential role in our success. Along the way, Heritage Keepers enjoy networking, socializing and continued learning experiences, all while building relationships with staff, fellow volunteers and the community they are serving.

Upcoming Events:
Join us to learn more about the Gaylord-Pickens Museum's new Heritage Keeper Volunteer Program at an Open House on either Saturday, July 24 or Saturday, Aug. 21 from 2-4 p.m. Guests who fill out a volunteer information form will be invited to tour the Museum free of charge. Volunteer Requirements:

We are seeking individuals who want to share their love of Oklahoma with others. Because volunteers play such a vital role in the Association and Museum operations, they must:

  • Be 16 years of age; if under 18, must have parental consent
  • Have Internet access
  • Be able to commit to one year of service
  • Participate in training and orientation
  • Pass a reference check and background check

Prospective volunteers must first return a completed application and Skills & Interest Inventory, followed by an interview and finally orientation. This process allows the volunteer coordinator and the volunteer to evaluate the volunteer’s skills, commitment level and best place of service to the Association and Museum.
